NYIC VISTA

 

 

Mercy Center will host a NYIC VISTA for one year starting August 27, 2016.  NYIC VISTAs are AmeriCorps VISTAs who, through the New York Immigration Coalition, engage in a year of full-time paraprofessional service at a host organization.

The NYIC VISTA will primarily support the Development Department, which raises all of Mercy Center’s operating revenue through a yearlong schedule of events, mailings and grant proposals and reports. The VISTA will assist with events, including the annual gala and auction, mailings for the annual appeal, and preparation of grant proposals, reports and letters of inquiry. He/She will also assist with preparation of website copy and materials posted on our social media platforms, as well as provide general administrative support.

Mercy Center seeks a recent college graduate or individual interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector. Qualifications include excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, highly organized and ability to multi-task, proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with social media platforms. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.

The NYIC VISTA at Mercy Center will be supported with:

  • AmeriCorps VISTA Pre-Service Orientation (August 23 - 26, 2016)

  • NYIC VISTA Training (August 29 - 31, 2016)

  • Monthly NYIC VISTA professional development/networking webinars

  • Ongoing support from NYIC staff

  • $15,312 in living allowance

  • $6,600 in health allowance

  • Choice of a year-end education award ($5,755) or cash stipend ($1,500)

  • Eligibility for additional benefits

    • Up to $1,000 in relocation allowance

    • Up to $550 in settling-in allowance

    • Up to $400 per month per child in childcare support


In order to be eligible for a NYIC VISTA position, one must be:

  • 18 years of age or older;

  • a U.S citizen, national or legal permanent resident, or have DACA status.
