About the Circle of Mercy Award and the
Volunteer ESL Teachers
The Circle of Mercy is a community joined together by a
single goal: to help people realize their life's full potential. The
Circle of Mercy Award recognizes those people who embody the spirit of mercy
through their ideas and actions in our community.
Since its inception in 2002, Mercy Center's
English as a Second Language (ESL) program has been able to serve the
immigrant community of the South Bronx because of the commitment and
dedication of a team of volunteer teachers. Mercy Center's volunteer
ESL teachers currently dedicate over 60 hours of their time in the classroom
each week to teach over 250 women and men the basics of the language of
their new home. Through the collective works of these teachers and all
who have taught in the past, the Circle of Mercy grows in breadth and depth.
We are thrilled to celebrate all they contribute to who we are and what we
are able to accomplish at Mercy Center.
