Our Mission
In the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Center empowers women and their families in the South Bronx to liberate themselves from economic poverty. We promote their right to an improved quality of life by addressing the needs of the whole person, developing skills for healthy family living and economic advancement, and building a community of respect, hospitality, and non-violence.
History of Mercy Center
Mercy Center was founded in 1990 as a counseling and support center to help women deal with stresses in their lives, and offer them a chance to grow towards reaching their full potential.
Mercy Center soon developed parenting classes and women’s support groups to help parents meet the challenges they faced.
Over the years more programs were added, including Family Development and Alternatives to Violence, Employment/Job Skills, ESL and Immigrant Services, Personal Development, and Youth Programs.
In 2010 Mercy Center celebrated its 20th Anniversary, and is now embracing the opportunities and challenges of the next 20 years!
